About a month or so ago my thoughts turned to running a Christmas appeal. I didn’t want to do anything too original, too glossy or too extravagant and neither did I want it to be impersonal. So, I thought why not make a personal pledge to help raise funds for a cause and to invite my friends and family to give “In My Name” instead of buying me a Christmas present. It’s not that I wanted to seem ungrateful for their kind thoughts at this time of year because I am not ungrateful.
Little did I know at the time that the Church of England would launch a campaign based on the Lord’s Prayer, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.”, or that sad events in Paris would lead to a relaunch and redoubling of the #NotInMyName campaign or that a blog post from JustGiving would in answer to “Four things every charity should know about Christmas giving” list that they should “Suggest donations as gifts – 56% of people we asked would appreciate a Christmas donation made on their behalf over an unwanted gift.”.
It’s not that it’s an unwanted gift, far from it. It’s just that I would like any gifts that I may received to go towards an appeal that I would like to support this Christmas.
So with this in mind I created a personal pledge page to say that I would like to raise funds for the Escaping Darkness Appeal.
If you too would like to make a pledge for Christmas please use the form below to submit your request.
